Truths paralleled with the symbol of Santa

December 25, 2008

SANTA: That big jolly guy who leaves presents in return for scrumptious cookies and ice cold milk.

I remember when I was a young child I could hear the jingle of his sleigh bells as he dashed away from my roof. Sometimes I would even look out my window, and see Rudolph’s rosy nose shining brightly for the world to see (ok, now I’m definitely exaggerating!) .. that was just a lil’ intro.

I realize that we’ve all reached the spiritually mature point of knowing that Christmas is about celebrating the birth of our Savior, JESUS! What a wonderful name. Our hearts know nothing more than to offer up thankfulness to God for sacrificing His son to pay our wages of sin.

This Christmas, I’ve been thinking a lot about Santa. I thought about some truth of God that I see paralleled with the symbol of Santa. I’m not saying that Santa is a god-like figure by any means, but I can see some “truths” that serve as little reminders of our faith.

  • Santa doesn’t live on earth. His home is in the North Pole, waaaay above earth. —God lives in Heaven, waaaaaaaay above earth.
  • Santa is  a kind-hearted, giving man. —-We definitely serve a kind-hearted, giving, loving God.
  • Santa has a “naughty and nice” list. —- We are all “naughty” people at birth, but once we accept the forgiveness through our Savior, we are cleansed!…which I guess you could consider “nice.”   ..this one is a little far-fetched, but you get my drift!
  • Santa brings presents. —- God brought us the only gift that is worth anything in this world– Jesus. (i.e. We get presents everyday because Jesus lives inside us. The same Jesus that was born in Bethlehem lives inside you and me! Merry Christmas to that!)
  • Santa is not “seen” by anyone. You have to BELIEVE in Santa. —- “We live by faith, not by sight.”  We trust the truth that God is our creator and our Father.  We believe the gospel: God sent his one and only Son to die for our sins. We are forgiven and have eternal life.
  • Santa “sees you when you’re sleeping, he knows when you’re awake.”  —-We serve an omnipresent and  omniscient God.  He knows every word we speak, every thought we have and action we execute. Way scary, but at the same time way cool because He knows all, but loves us the same.
  • Santa has reindeer who are with him to deliver the presents. —- The reindeer are the followers of Christ who have the honor of “spreading Christmas cheer/spreading the gospel” to the nations.   We are vessels of the gospel. ….haha I mean another really “out there” one, but once again, you get my drift…
  • And finally, one more truth… Santa is a myth. —- God is REAL!

Well, those are the things I’ve thought of the past day or two!

Praise GOD for the light He sent to us that blessed day thousands of years ago. Praise Him that the same present He sent the world then is still alive and of the utmost importance this very day.

Blog blessings, JOYEUX NOEL (that was for you, Ashy!) FELIZ NAVIDAD (Bec, Care, Camil and Beth!) and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!! Love you all.
